New Ambulance Building
New Ambulance Building – Coming Soon to Serve You Better
Our district ambulance service is moving into a modern, purpose-built facility designed to improve response times, enhance patient care, and support our dedicated emergency teams. The new ambulance building will feature upgraded vehicle bays, improved decontamination areas, expanded training rooms, sleeping quarters for the 24 hour staff and safer staff facilities. This investment ensures that our paramedics and EMTs have the space, technology, and resources they need to respond quickly and effectively when every second counts.
The new location has been carefully chosen to provide faster access to major roads and residential neighborhoods, helping us reach you and your loved ones more efficiently. We invite all community members to learn more about the project, see how the new station will operate, and discover how it will strengthen local emergency preparedness for years to come.
About the New Building
The new ambulance building is designed with patient safety and staff wellbeing at its core. It includes climate-controlled and secured ambulance bays, secure medical supply storage, and dedicated training area. Energy-efficient systems and modern construction standards will reduce operating costs and environmental impact, allowing more resources to be directed toward frontline services.
Inside, flexible training and meeting spaces will support ongoing education, simulations, and coordination with fire, police, and hospital partners. The gym will provide a place for the staff to remain healthy and fit making them better prepared to handle the physical labor of lifting and transporting patients. The sleeping quarters offer the staff a place to rest while on their 24 hour shift. The building also offers improved accessibility, clear wayfinding, and safe public walk-in area. Together, these features create a resilient hub for emergency medical services that can adapt to future community needs and advances in healthcare.
The funds for this project is being responsibly sourced through solar and wind energy funds, while our tax levy continues to support full-time staffing and operational needs. We have continued to save funds throughout the year for this improvement.

Why This Move Matters
Relocating to the new site will shorten average response times, improve coordination with nearby hospitals, and provide better coverage for growing neighborhoods. The current building has served us well for many years, but it no longer meets modern standards for space, technology, or staff safety. The new facility addresses these gaps and positions our ambulance service to respond to more calls, more efficiently, with the latest equipment and protocols.
Many people did not realize that we are Upper Scioto Valley Ambulance District. Until 2010 we had an ambulance in each area. In 2010, the McGuffey ambulance moved to Alger due to lack of volunteers. In 2019, Alger began staffing 2 providers Monday-Friday from 7:00AM-3:30PM, due to a lack of volunteers during the day. In 2021, the Roundhead ambulance moved to Alger due to a lack of volunteers. From that day forward all of the USV McGuffey EMS, USV Alger EMS, and USV Roundhead EMS were wiped and together we went back to the name we were given in 1974, the name we had always been operating under the umbrella of. We went back to being Upper Scioto Valley Ambulance District much like the school, we became one team as we should have always been. In 2024, Upper Scioto Valley Ambulance District went to a fully staffed 24/7 structure due to a lack of volunteers. The current building is not fit for the 24/7 staffed structure. Offices and supply closets have been downsized and a bed placed in each for the staff to sleep over night. There is no kitchen in the current station for the crews to cook food. There are no showers in the current station for the staff to wash off blood, feces, urine and anything else they may get into doing their job for our district.
By supporting this project and staying informed, you help ensure that lifesaving care is always within reach. The new ambulance building is not just an upgrade in bricks and mortar; it is a long-term investment in the health, safety, and resilience of our entire community.
Current Building Location
Our current ambulance station is located in the northern part of the district and is constrained by limited parking, aging infrastructure, and no room to expand. These challenges can slow vehicle turnaround times and make it harder for crews to stay on station 24/7. While our teams continue to provide excellent care, the building itself no longer supports the level of service our community deserves.
You will see a visual of the existing station below to help you recognize the site you may already know. This image highlights the space limitations that influenced the decision to relocate. Understanding where we are today makes it easier to appreciate the benefits of the new, more accessible location.

New Building Location
The new ambulance building will be located at a strategically chosen site with direct access to key routes, improved visibility, and safer entry and exit points for emergency vehicles. The surrounding area offers more space for vehicle maneuvering, staff parking, and future expansion if needed. This location also places our crews closer to several high-demand neighborhoods, helping reduce response times when every minute matters.
On the flyer, you will find a visual representation of the new site so you can easily identify it as construction progresses. Clear signage, modern lighting, and accessible pathways will make it simple for visitors, patients, and partner agencies to find and use the facility once it opens.

Distance & Access – From Old to New
The new ambulance building is located just a short distance from the current station, ensuring continuity of service while offering better access to major roads and residential areas. This new station will be transformative for our district. It will reduce response times by up to 8 minutes in our southernmost areas, while adding no more than 6 minutes in the northernmost parts-a strategic improvement that enhances service for all. A simple map and infographic illustrate the route between the two locations. This visual helps you see how the move enhances our ability to reach more homes and businesses quickly.
The route between the current and new buildings has been carefully planned to minimize disruption during the transition period. To better understand the location of the current building is 4.5 miles (7 minutes) from the McGuffey Post Office and 11 miles (15 minutes) from the Roundhead Post Office. The new station is 6.7 miles (8 minutes) from the McGuffey Post Office, 6.1 miles (8 minutes) from the Roundhead Post Office, and 4.9 miles (6 minutes) from the Alger Post Office. Our crews will continue to respond from the existing station until the new facility is fully operational, tested, and ready. Once the move is complete, the new location will serve as the central hub for all ambulance operations in the area.

Map & Infographic Overview
The included map and distance infographic provide a clear, at-a-glance view of how the new ambulance building relates to familiar landmarks, neighborhoods, and the current station. This layout is designed to be easy to read for all ages and backgrounds.
By reviewing the map, you can better understand how the new location improves coverage across the community. The infographic also highlights estimated response time improvements and expanded service areas. Together, these visuals demonstrate that the move is not just a change of address, but a strategic step toward faster, more reliable emergency care for everyone.
How the Community Benefits
The new ambulance building is designed to benefit every member of our community. Faster response times mean quicker access to lifesaving care during heart attacks, strokes, accidents, and other emergencies. Enhanced training spaces allow our teams to practice advanced skills, coordinate with other first responders, and stay prepared for large-scale incidents. Modern facilities also help us attract and retain highly skilled paramedics and EMTs.
Beyond emergency calls, the new station will serve as a hub for community outreach, safety education, and health awareness events. From CPR demonstrations to school visits and open house tours, we plan to use this space to build stronger connections with residents. Your support and engagement help ensure that this building becomes a true community asset, not just an operational base.
